Story: Nigel Keane is one of the seedlings, i.e. a group of people who were genetically altered by the Comet Effect in the 1960s. Keane was working for Scotland Yard and had just been injured by Seamus O'Brienn, when the comet passed, changing him into a super-human [StormWatch (vol. 1) #12]. The details on what happened have not been revealed, but right after he was transferred to StormWatch Prime [StormWatch Sourcebook (vol. 1) #1].

In a fight with Deathtrap, Keane's body was injured and his neural circuits destroyed [StormWatch (vol. 1) #7]. His body degraded and he was transformed to pure energy [StormWatch (vol. 1) #11].

For a long time Hellstrike's body was just energy to him, but as he learned how to control the energy and how the new body worked, he was able to have something close to normal functions in his body like getting intoxicated and having sex [StormWatch (vol. 1) #46].

When StormWatch investigated what they thought was an asteroid, SkyWatch got infested with Aliens that killed most of the crew. Among the victims were Fuji, whose containment suit was ruptured and his plasma energy mixed with Hellstrike's. The WildC.A.T.S. saved the remaining crew and the plan was to return with reinforcements, but Winter apparently realized that there was only one way to get rid of the Aliens. Instead of escaping with the others and try to fight the Aliens later, he stayed behind and flew the space station into the sun [WildC.A.T.S./Aliens #1]. The destruction of SkyWatch and death of Winter and other StormWatch operatives was what led to StormWatch being discontinued and the formation of the Authority [StormWatch (vol. 2) #11].

With the changes in the nature of the universe from Captain Atom's visit [Captain Atom: Armageddon #8], the new Doctor was able to extract Winter who had been trapped in the Sun [Authority: Scorched Earth], and to everyone's surprise Fuji, Hellstrike and Fahrenheit also appeared. The energies of Fuji and Hellstrike were mixed upon arrival, but the Doctor succeeded in separating them and got Fuji into a new containment armor [StormWatch PHD #5]. Shortly after getting back, Hellstrike joined the new StormWatch PHD [WorldStorm #2].

Skills & abilities: Hellstrike can direct his energy in plasma shields for defensive purpose or explosive energy blasts for offensive purposes or flight.
