Story: Grawp was born to the giantess Fridwulfa and an unnamed father. He was left behind by his mother and raised in a community of giants in their mountain dwelling. Being of relatively small stature (16 feet) he was constantly being picked on by the other giants [1].

His half-brother Hagrid found him on a mission where he and Olympe Maxim were sent to negotiate with the giants for support in the upcoming war with Lord Voldemort. He took Grawp with him back to Hogwarts, but as Grawp was not fit for human company, Hagrid hid him in the Forbidden Forest, where he tried to teach Grawp to be civilized. Due to what was happening on Hogwarts, Hagrid had to involve Harry, Hermione and Ron, so they also helped raising Grawp for some time [1].

Hagrid was successful in making Grawp more civilized. He participated at Dumbledore's funeral [2], and at the Battle of Hogwarts, he fought on the side of Hogwarts [3]. What happened after this has not been revealed other than he was present at the celebration following Voldemort's defeat [3].

Background notes: In the Harry Potter series, Hagrid's love for dangerous creatures was a running joke. He never saw the reason for fearing the creatures while almost everyone else were scared. When Grawp was introduced, he looked like yet another dangerous creature, much like the spider Aragog, that only Hagrid could approach or like, but Rowling made him a bit more than that as he ended up being civilized and fighting against Lord Voldemort. Grawp was only a minor character and never really fleshed out, but like many other characters from the Harry Potter series he clearly evolved during the series. In the movie adaption of The Order of the Phoenix from 2007, Grawp was played by Tony Maudsley.
