Story: Aragog was given to Rubeus Hagrid while Hagrid was still attending school. He was hatched in a cupboard where he lived on scraps provided by Hagrid for some time. Though his natural instinct was to feed on humans, he never touched humans while living on Hogwarts, out of respect for Hagrid [1].

When the basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets was released and attacked a student, Hagrid and Aragog were framed by Tom Riddle. Aragog was believed to be the creature which had attacked the studentand he was forced to flee into the Forbidden Forest, and Hagrid was expelled [1].

Out in the forest, Aragog lived on the creatures he found, and he and Hagrid remained in contact. Hagrid also found a wife for Aragog with which he started a family [2]. He died of old age in 1997 after being sick for almost a year. Hagrid took care of him while he was sick, and gave him a proper burial (after escaping his offspring who tried to kill him when Aragog died) [2].

Aragog's offspring fought on Lord Voldemort's side at the battle for Hogwarts [3]. After the battle the surviving members presumably retreated to the Forbidden Forest.
